Summertime! It lives in our imaginations throughout the year and its memories warm our souls deep into winter. It’s a time to be a little more laid back, unwind and embrace some extra fun. These are often the days children remember about their childhoods. Running through the lush grass at Eden’s summer camp , jumping into sparkling pools, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the school enjoying a treat from the Kona Ice truck or walking barefoot on the beaches at Sandy Hook, this was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable summer sessions at Eden.
For our students who spent July and August participating in Eden’s Extended School Year (ESY) Program at The Eden School in Princeton or at our Eden at Crossroads Camp in the mountains of northwestern New Jersey, our school staff made sure it would not only continue to be a time of learning but also a time filled with fun and fond memories.
Eden’s summer program offers students an environment where they can practice their educational, independent living and recreational skills, while continuing to help them to maintain the academic, social/ behavioral, communication and related skills they worked on throughout the traditional school months. Components of the extended school year program include: academics and vocational training, speech and language, community inclusion, domestic and self-care skills, swimming instruction, arts and crafts, and recreational activities.
This year’s field trips included: a trip to the beach at Sandy Hook, canoeing, roller skating, the movies, a local county fair and shopping trips in nearby communities. Summer camp themes including Wacky Week, Holiday Week, International Week and Spirit Week, kept students interested and involved in non-stop fun!
Thank you to all the incredible staff who made this summer one our students will be sure to remember!
