In the newest installment of our “10 Questions With” series, we spoke with Community Job Coach Prince Metzger. Prince just celebrated his one-year anniversary at Eden.

What is a typical day like as a Community Job Coach at Eden?
Greet my participants in the morning and support them in maintaining employment. Building relationships with employers and providing training on workplace etiquette and development. I also track participants’ progress, identify challenges, and adjust support and strategies as needed.
Why did you choose this career?
Passion for helping others and our participants. I have a strong desire to support our participants in achieving their goals and improving their lives. I believe that as a CJC, I will have a significant impact on our participants’ lives, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their goals. I hope to continue to grow and learn and stay up to date with best practices.
How does employment help empower our participants?
In my view, I think employment provides increased independence, allowing participants to make choices and decisions. Participants gain confidence and self-esteem and develop a sense of belonging. Employment also gives the participants the opportunity to socially interact with their co-workers and peers. Employment helps them to feel connected to the community in which they live.
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice on your first at Eden, what would it be?
My advice will be to approach each participant with empathy and a willingness to tailor my support to individual needs. By doing so, I would be better equipped to provide support in helping our participants achieve their employment goals and also build confidence in their abilities.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Africa because of its unique culture and fascinating traditions. Africa is home to stunning landscapes like mountains, forests, and coastlines. African cuisine is renowned for its freshness, like the potato greens. Africans are noted for hospitality and respect for others, making visitors feel welcome and at ease.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?
With my superpower, I will strive to make a positive impact, promoting global unity and helping with the needs of others.
What is your favorite summer activity?
I love going to the beach.
What’s the most surprising thing you learned about yourself since you started working at Eden?
I have learned to recognize the emotional demands of working with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders, and understand the need to prioritize my well-being to maintain effectiveness and job satisfaction. I have also learned strategies for managing stress and maintaining a healthy work-life balance
What do you want people to know about our participants?
I like people to know that our participants bring their own skills and perspectives. Our participants have distinct challenges and aspirations and objectives. Our participants can make valuable contributions to their communities and families.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The sense of fulfillment comes from making a meaningful difference in the lives of our participants and empowering them to reach their full potential.
