Brendan began his Eden journey nearly two years ago, when he joined the residential program.
“Surprisingly, it was very easy for him — easier for him than it was for us,” said Cathy, Brendan’s mom. “He moved in, and he seemed really happy. He accepted everything right away, which goes to show how well the house is being run. He felt accepted. He was the last person to move in, and he was met with anticipation and kindness.”
Brendan moved into his Eden residence when the house opened in 2024. Residential Supervisor Ayodeji “Deji” Olotu has worked hard to ensure that every one of the four residents is happy, healthy, and engaged in activities they enjoy.
“We make sure this is a home, not just a house,” said Deji.
Every weekday when the residents get home from the day program, they have their afternoon snack together. Afterwards, every evening is a little different. Movie nights, working out at the YMCA, trips to the park, shopping — Deji and his staff make sure everyone has nightly activities they look forward to.
“I think it’s very important that the staff and the participants do more than just sit down, have dinner, and that’s it,” said Cathy. “It fosters togetherness for the guys in the house, and the more the staff does with the participants, the more they get to know their likes and dislikes. Deji makes sure it’s always participant-centered.”
Brendan’s parents are comforted knowing their child is doing things he loves with peers and Eden staff who support him.
“Brendan is friendly, and he loves to be around other people. The staff knows how to engage with him,” said his mom. “It gives us peace of mind. We feel like he’s at home now, which is what we’ve always wanted for him. When he can’t be with us, Eden is his new home.”
Brendan loves to go for walks, shop, go out for ice cream, and bounce on his exercise ball.
Ben loves to do puzzles. He also enjoys helping with chores around the house, like taking out the trash.
Teddy is a fantastic piano player! He has a piano in his room, where he frequently plays songs.
Bobby loves all things Disney! Movie nights are his favorite group activity.
