Kelvin has earned a reputation as a hard worker. From his job at Princeton University to helping staff at the day center, he is always looking for ways to participate and stay busy.
“He’s very friendly. He wants to help out as much as possible,” said Bendas Center Supervisor Kelly Blidi.
Kelvin doesn’t slow down once he’s home. He assists with laundry, dishes, and other chores. A few nights a week, he joins staff in preparing dinner for himself and his housemate, Travis.
Chopping vegetables, cooking some of the ingredients, adding seasonings, preparing salad, and plating the dish are skills he has learned alongside Direct Support Professionals who assist Kelvin in the kitchen.
Cooking dinner might seem mundane to some, but for Kelvin, it provides a sense of independence and pride.
