Eden Autism’s research has gone international! Director of Clinical Services Lisa Toole was Chair of a symposium at the 12th annual international conference of the Association for Behavior Analysis, International in Lisbon, Portugal.
The symposium was entitled “Large-Scale Analyses on the Assessment and Treatment of Challenging Behavior in Persons with Neurodevelopmental Disorders.” Lisa was joined at the symposium by professionals from Kennedy Krieger, Rutgers University, University of Florida, and Texas Tech University.
The symposium was a great opportunity to share research with Behavior Analysts from across the world and share Eden’s mission on an international scale. “It’s great to get our name out there and let other people know that here in New Jersey we are doing good work,” said Lisa.
The symposium was focused on refinements to functional analysis methodology and practice. “I was really proud of the theme of our symposium,” said Lisa. “It’s important to further our understanding of how to treat severe behavior. We want to continue to refine methods and make the assessment and treatment process safer and more inclusive.”
One of the symposium talks focused specifically on adult services, and how very little of the current research focuses on the assessment and treatment of adults with severe behavior — something Lisa and her colleagues are working to change.
“When I heard that Lisa had been asked to chair a symposium for ABAI’s 12th Annual International Conference in Lisbon, I couldn’t have been more excited for her,” said Eden Autism Chief Clinical Officer Tim Nipe. “I think it speaks not only to Lisa’s professional reputation and dedication in her work with autistic adults, but also to Eden’s ever-growing impact on the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.”
