Amruta believed that no one would know or understand her son more than she does. “I always say that I can feel Eshaan’s heartbeat,” she said. Then, she met his Eden teachers. They don’t just observe his actions — they spend time with him to understand what they mean and the reasons behind them.
“Everything they tell me about him is so accurate. The depth of connection they have with him, it’s just so amazing,” Amruta said.
Eshaan is non-verbal, and having to rely on others to tell her about her son can be stressful. “I have a neurotypical daughter, and whatever happens, she is going to come home and tell me what this person said or did. But with Eshaan, I will never know what will happen unless someone tells me. It gives me immense peace of mind knowing he is with people who care for him and have his best interests at heart. I trust them to make the right decision, and that is the most I can ask for.”
Eshaan joined Eden last summer. When Amruta went in for a classroom observation, she was amazed to see her son folding towels and loading the dishwasher – tasks she had never before seen him complete.
“Eshaan is a great addition to the Middle Childhood classroom,” said Head Teacher Rachel Stanely. “Since joining Eden less than a year ago, his academic success has grown tremendously; he is baselining out of new steps and has already mastered some learning goals! He is a joy to have in the classroom.”
At Eden, Eshaan has found a place where he can be his loving, affectionate, and excitable self, while receiving the support to grow and learn new skills.
“Everyone at Eden has an attitude of ‘what can we do to help?’ That attitude and heart set Eden apart from everything else,” said Amruta.
