Eden’s Board of Trustees plays a crucial role in determining the strategic course of Eden Autism, ensuring that the organization continues to operate in the best interest of past, present and future members.

ANDREW HAUGHWOUT, PhD – Chair

Dr. Andrew Haughwout is Senior Vice President and Leader for Household and Regional Policy at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Research and Statistics Group.

His research areas include consumer finance, housing, urban and regional economics and governmental finance issues. Andy received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and his B.A. with Honors from Swarthmore College. Andy’s son, Joseph, is a graduate of The Eden School and participates in Eden’s Adult Day Program. He serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of Eden’s Executive Committee. Andy previously served as Treasurer for the Board of Trustees and also served on Eden’s Audit/Risk and Capital Campaign Steering Committees.

MARIBETH EDMUNDS, EdD – Vice Chair

Dr. Maribeth Edmunds, an educator in New Jersey’s public schools for over 35 years, is Director of Secondary Education (6-12) with the South Brunswick School District. She has served as a teacher and then as a principal before assuming the role of director. She works closely with the Regional Family Support Planning Council as a family advocate in Mercer, Middlesex and Hunterdon Counties. Maribeth earned her doctorate in Leadership Management and Policy from Seton Hall University where she now teaches graduate courses as an adjunct. Her son, Carl Ross, is a graduate of The Eden School.  He is currently employed by Maddalena’s Cheesecake in Ringoes, New Jersey and resides in an Eden supervised apartment. Maribeth is Vice Chair of Eden’s Board of Trustees, Co-Chair of the Dreams Committee, and serves on Eden’s Executive, Governance/Nominating, and Program Committees.

LINDA SCHARFMAN – Vice Chair

Linda Scharfman is employed part time with Rutgers Health (formerly Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care) as a counselor on the Mom2Mom helpline providing peer support, case management, and referrals to parents and caregivers of children and adults with special needs.  Her past professional experience includes technical writing and human resources training.  She received her BS from the State University of New York at Albany in Business Administration and her MBA from Hofstra University with concentrations in Management and Training.  Linda is an Eden parent whose son Matthew is a participant in Eden’s Adult Day and Residential programs.  She has been a member of the Capital Campaign, Eden Dreams, Development, and Program Committees as well as chairing the Human Rights Committee.  Linda is Vice Chair of Eden’s Board of Trustees and currently serves on the Executive, Development, and Program Committees.

MARK A. BERKOWSKY, AIA, LEED AP – Treasurer

Mark A. Berkowsky is the Principal and Owner of Berkowsky and Associates with 40+ years of experience in architecture and construction. He is a registered architect, licensed professional planner and LEED accredited professional. He serves as president of Cranbury Housing Associates, Inc. a non-profit organization that develops and manages affordable housing and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society. Mark received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and the US Green Building Council. Mark has been a member of the Eden Dreams steering committee for more than a decade and co-chaired the event several times. He is Treasurer of the Eden Board of Trustees and serves on the Executive, Finance/Facilities, and Governance/Nominating Committees.

KATHLEEN MOORE – Secretary

Kathy Moore is retired as Director of IT for the Diocese of Trenton. She has served as a Board Trustee for Autism New Jersey and COSAC. Kathy holds an M.P.A. from Seton Hall and a B.S. from Rider University. She is an Eden parent whose son, Kevin, is a participant in Eden Residential Services. Kathy serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees, is Chair of the Governance/Nominating Committee, and is a member of Eden’s Executive Committee.

JOHN A. AMIRANTE, CIMA®, CAP®, CFP®

John Amirante is an institutional Financial Advisor and Sr. Portfolio Advisor with the Beacon Group of Merrill Lynch / Bank of America. His professional experience includes 18+ years of advising and consulting to Boards and Fiduciaries around governance and asset management issues pertaining to endowments, defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and foundations with Lincoln Financial, Wells Fargo Private Bank, JPMorgan Chase and American Express. John holds an MBA, Global from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business and a B.A., History, from the State University of New York at Albany. He holds a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation through IMCA and The Wharton School of Business, as well as Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designations. He is a member of the NYSS of CPAs – Estate, Not for Profit, and Employee Benefits Committees and previously sat on the Board of CentraState Medical Center Foundation. John serves on Eden’s Audit/Risk and Finance/Facilities Committees.

CHARLIE BANTA

Charlie Banta, General Manager for the Warwick Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, is an executive with Aimbridge Hospitality. Previously with Davidson Hotels and Resorts and Wyndham International, Charlie’s expertise in the hospitality industry includes catering sales, marketing, food and beverage, and hotel management. Charlie received his formal training at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. The father of a 16-year old son with autism, Charlie has served as a youth baseball coach, Cub Scout Den Leader, and is currently an Assistant Scout Master at Boy Scout Troop 1776 in Titusville. Charlie was instrumental in developing job opportunities at the Hyatt Regency Princeton for Eden’s adult participants. Charlie serves on Eden’s Audit/Risk Management and Governance/Nominating Committees.

MADELINE CHADEHUMBE, MD

Dr. Madeline Chadehumbe is the Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her current leadership and service positions include Medical Director at Princeton/Plainsboro Specialty Care Center with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Migraine QI at CHOP/ED Headache Center. Dr. Chadehumbe is Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatrics, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds memberships with the American Academy of Neurology, Child Neurology Society, American Epilepsy Society, and American Headache Society. She currently serves as an advisor to Eden’s Lecture Series Program, is a member of the Human Rights Committee and serves on Eden’s Program and Development Committees.

MARC A. CITRON, ESQ.

Marc Citron is the Managing Partner of the Princeton office of the law firm Saul, Ewing, Arnstein and Lehr.  He brings extensive legal experience in real estate, land use, and business transaction that would be an asset to Eden. Marc has served on the board of numerous non‐profits including Greenwood House Home for the Aged, American Jewish Committee, Bayonne Medical Center Foundation, JFK Medical Center Foundation and on capital campaign committees. Marc brings a strong business oversight perspective to his board service. Marc received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rutgers University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  He currently serves on Eden’s Finance/Facilities and Audit/Risk Committees.

CURT EMMICH

Curt Emmich, President of Picus, oversees the real estate asset management of Princeton Forrestal Center for Princeton University. His experience includes land development, project negotiations, and planning and design. He received his B.S. in Environmental Planning and Design from Rutgers University. He has served on the Eden Autism 5K benefit and was Race Director from 2003 until 2015. Curt is Chair of the Audit/Risk Committee and serves on the Executive and Finance/Facilities Committees.

BONNIE J. GALLOWAY, PhD

Dr. Bonnie Galloway is an expert in analytical management, accounting, and applied sociology with domestic and international experience in developing multi-disciplinary solutions to address organizational problems. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology of Organizations at Western Michigan University, M.B.A. in Accounting from Wayne State University and B.A. in Economics from Hillsdale College. She has served on the Strategic Planning Work Group, Eden’s Capital Campaign Steering Committee, chaired Eden by Moonlight, and has been on the committee for Eden Dreams. Bonnie is the Chair of Eden’s Development Committee and is a member of the Executive and Finance/Facilities Committees.

NORMAN GREENBERG

Norm Greenberg is a retired sales professional with expertise in high tech sales/sales management. He has served as a board member and president of Autism New Jersey (formerly COSAC). Norm’s son, Steven, is a graduate of The Eden School, and has been at Eden since 1978. He is currently an employee at Wawa and resides in an Eden apartment. Norm serves on the Audit/Risk and Finance/Facilities Committees.

HELEN E. HOENS, ESQ.

The Honorable Helen E. Hoens recently concluded her service as a Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Prior to being elevated to the Supreme Court, she served as a Superior Court judge, assigned to the trial bench for eight years and to the Appellate Division for four years. Justice Hoens holds a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. with High Honors from College of William and Mary. She is an Eden parent whose son, Charlie, is a graduate of The Eden School and currently an Eden adult resident. Justice Hoens serves on Eden’s Governance/Nominating and Development Committees.

WILLIAM JOHNSTON

Bill Johnston is Managing Director of Empire Valuation Consultants. His son Danny, attends the Eden School.  Bill has extensive non‐profit board experience in many different board leadership roles.  He has served on the board of Business Valuation Committee of the American Society of Appraisers since 2008.  Most recently he served as Chair until June 2017.  Prior to that, Bill led Finance and Nominating and served as Vice Chair.  Bill brings strong financial and analytical skills as a board candidate. Bill holds a B.S. in Finance and International Business from Pennsylvania State University, and a M.B.A. in Finance from New York University Stern School of Business.  Bill and his wife Megan are active supporters and contributors to Eden.   Their 5K team is one of the largest in size and fundraising, and they are also noted capital campaign contributors.  Bill currently serves on Eden’s Finance/Facilities and Program Committees.

JAYNE O’CONNOR

Jayne O’Connor is Vice President of Communications for Taft Communications.   Jayne has advised CEOs and political leaders in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors and served as press secretary to New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman. Jayne was director of corporate affairs for Bristol-Myers Squibb and then led Capital Health’s successful rebranding and reputational transformation to become a regional healthcare leader. A recognized community leader with a history of service on nonprofit boards, Jayne helped to found the Mercer County affiliate of Dress for Success and served on its board. Jayne also was on the board and executive committee of the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce and on the boards of the Trenton YWCA and Hopewell YMCA and now serves on the board of NJ Spotlight, the online news organization. Jayne received her BA in Political Science and MA in Political Science from Rutgers University. She serves on Eden’s Development and Governance/Nominating Committees.

GAHAN J. PANDINA, PhD

Dr. Gahan Pandina is a Senior Director, Compound Development Team Leader for Janssen Research and Development, Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. His research includes development of tools and technologies to enable novel medication development for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), novel approaches for disease interception and intervention in Mood Disorders, and treatment of depression and suicide. Gahan received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Binghamton University (and is licensed in NJ) and his B.A. from the University of Vermont. Gahan is also a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  Gahan serves as Chair of Eden’s Program Committee and also serves on Eden’s Executive and Development Committees.

S. PAUL PRIOR, ESQ.

Paul Prior is a Partner with the firm Hinkle, Fingles, Prior & Fischer, Attorneys at Law.  Paul has spent his entire career representing people with disabilities.  As the younger brother of a long-served participant at Eden, he has a life-long commitment to disability law.   His legal work has focused on special education, guardianship, financial entitlements, and access to appropriate services. A substantial part of his practice is devoted to assisting families in estate and trust matters. He has successfully argued leading cases before the New Jersey Supreme Court, Third Court of Appeals, as well as other state and federal courts. Paul served as a federal monitor overseeing conditions at state-operated institutions.

Paul holds a JD from Seton Hall University School of Law and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arc of New Jersey, and Autism New Jersey.  Previously he served on the Board of Special Olympics New Jersey.  He is a member of the Family Advisory Committee for the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey, on the Professional Advisory Board of ASPEN, and a member of the Elder Law Section of the New Jersey Bar Association.  Paul writes and lectures frequently on topics concerning the law and disability, as well as issues affecting siblings.  Paul serves on Eden’s Program and Governance/Nominating Committees.

STACIE SHERMAN

Stacie Sherman is New Jersey Bureau Chief at Bloomberg News. She has been with the company for 21 years, and her current role includes managing the Trenton and Princeton news bureaus, and assigning and editing stories about politics, government, business and finance. Stacie holds a B.A. in Journalism from Trenton State College.  She is the parent of two special-needs children and is an advocate, fundraiser and blogger for the autism community. Her 16-year-old daughter, Brielle, attends The Eden School. Stacie is Co-Chair of Eden’s Annual 5K Fun Run and Walk and serves on Eden’s Development and Program Committees.
