Athletes from across New Jersey headed to Vernon in early February for the 2023 Special Olympics New Jersey Winter Games.
10 athletes from Eden Autism competed in this year’s games. Chris D. and Kevin R. took home medals in the alpine skiing competition. Steven G., Holly K, Antonio L., Kevin P., and Charles S. took home medals in the cross-country skiing competition.
“This year was much bigger than last, as it was SONJ’s first year back to their full-size event,” said Recreation Specialist Trey Norwood. “It was great getting to see the guys interact with even more athletes this year. I feel like it really helped the guys have way more fun than they did last year.”
Over 230 athletes from all 21 counties participated in this year’s Winter Games. Congratulations to everyone for giving it your all on the slopes!
In addition to the outdoor winter games, Eden athletes also competed in the Special Olympics New Jersey bowling competition. The bowling competition was held on February 12 in Hamilton.
Sam G., Steven G., and David W. all took home gold medals. The three gold medalists will advance to the sectionals, set to be held on March 11. Congratulations, Sam, Steven, and David!
