Berkowsky and Associates to raise and match $30K for Eden Autism

Three decades, two generations, one mission — 2020 marks Berkowsky and Associates, Inc.’s 30th anniversary, and the family-run business is celebrating by giving back to their community.

The Berkowsky and Associates 5K team set a goal of raising $30,000 this year, an amount that would break a single-team fundraising record for the event. If the team reaches their fundraising goal, the company has pledged to match all donations — giving a total of $60,000 to Eden Autism.

“When it was suggested that we increase last year’s fundraising goal again for 2020, the first thing that popped into my head was, 30k for 30 years,” said Berkowsky and Associates, Inc. Executive Vice President Eric Berkowsky. “We’re celebrating our company’s 30th anniversary this year, so what better way to celebrate 30 years than raise $30,000 for Eden Autism.  And then I thought, why not make it 30 for 30 for 30, and match the $30,000!  So our company is pledging to not only raise $30,000 but match that $30,000 with our own donation.”

When Mark Berkowsky founded the company in 1990, he set out to create an organization that not only meets and exceeds their client’s expectations, but gives back to the community at every opportunity. From President of Cranbury Housing Associates to his current role as the Chair of Eden’s Board of Trustees, Mark has created a philanthropic company culture.

“My dad has always been volunteering. He just has this giving back mentality that’s rubbed off on everyone else,” said Berkowsky and Associates, Inc. CEO, Siri Berkowsky Henrichs.

With Siri as CEO and her brother, Eric Berkowsky, as Executive Vice President, Mark’s children are carrying on more than the family business — they’re continuing their father’s commitment to their community.

“It’s leading by example, not just for our employees but even for other companies we work with,” said Siri. “We want to demonstrate that doing good in the community is a positive experience; you do something good for someone else and it makes you feel amazing.”

The last two years, Berkowsky and Associates has organized an in-office competition between departments to raise money during the Eden Autism 5K. Each year, they’ve raised over $25,000 to support Eden’s programs and services.

“Our entire organization came together to meet the goal,” said Siri. “Almost everybody in our office was on the phone, sending emails, asking family and friends to contribute. Even people who couldn’t make it that day signed up to do their part. I’m just incredibly proud of everyone.”

In addition to celebrating their 30th anniversary, Berkowsky and Associates is also celebrating being a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) certified through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. “I’m proud, especially being in the industry we’re in (the construction industry) where there are very few companies that are women owned,” said Siri.

Siri, along with Eric, is part of the second generation proudly carrying on their father’s legacy of providing quality services and philanthropy.

“Berkowsky and Associates is a champion for the people Eden serves,” said Eden Autism President & CEO Michael Decker. “Through their creative fundraising efforts and the donation of their time and resources, their commitment to improving the lives of people with autism demonstrates the very best of our community.”
