Joe Saunders wins 2023 NJACP DSP Heroes Award

We are proud to announce that Joseph Saunders is the recipient of the 2023 NJACP DSP Heroes Award!

Joe Saunders, left, with a participant at the 2022 Eden Autism Service Awards.

Joe, a Senior Direct Support Professional, has been with Eden for 21 years, and he is currently working at the Princeton Mews Apartment. Matthew Connolly, Assistant Director of Residential Services, said nominating Joe was an easy choice.

“He has been the Senior DSP at Princeton Mews for quite some time and does a great job with the participants there,” said Matthew. “The apartment is always clean and well kept, the participants receive great care, and Joe is very creative in always finding fun and engaging community activities for the participants.”

Joe regularly takes the participants to concerts, sporting events, and day trips to the beach or a city to do some sightseeing. He does a tremendous job in supporting the individuals who live at Princeton Mews by seeking out interesting activities.

Throughout the pandemic, Joe worked hard to maintain some sort of normalcy by finding new activities for the participants to remain active, allowing them to stick to their “normal” routine. Whether it was finding new parks to explore or joining virtual events, Joe relentlessly kept the participants engaged. Joe also worked diligently alongside the clinical department to ensure there was not an increase or change in behaviors during this time.

Before joining the Princeton Mews Apartment, Joe worked with an individual with serious health complications. He never hesitated to assist with appointments and medical needs. Joe continuously looked beyond himself to take care of our participants and provide whatever assistance they may need.

Joe’s professionalism and character never waver as his calm demeanor creates a safe space for those around him. Eden families speak very highly of Joe and the care he provides to their loved ones.

We all are thankful for Joe and the service he provides, and we are proud to call Joe Saunders our hero!
