The Schalks Crossing Day Center was recently transformed into a concert hall as the Metuchen High School Chamber Orchestra performed for participants and staff.

Orchestra Conductor Chris McEwan said one of their initiatives this year was to get out in the community, and performing for the individuals at Eden Autism provided them with the perfect opportunity. “It’s important for us to get experience playing for others, and it’s great for those in the community to be able to enjoy a concert,” Chris said.

This year, the MHS Chamber Orchestra received a Gold Rating at the CJMEA Orchestra Festival, participated in the NJMEA Orchestra Festival, and won first place at the Rowan String Festival. In addition, they have been invited back to Rowan University next Fall to perform at one of their Orchestra concerts. They are also busy preparing for two more concerts before the end of the school year.

At Schalks Crossing, they performed a mix of classical songs and pop hits. Many of the individuals we support smiled and nodded along to the melody, while a few got up and danced.

We want to extend our gratitude to the MHS Chamber Orchestra for their incredible performance!
